About the Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS)

The Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) is an independent, neutral, and non-political humanitarian organization operating throughout Somalia. Established in 1963, SRCS is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and works in accordance with its Fundamental Principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.

SRCS delivers lifesaving humanitarian assistance to vulnerable communities affected by conflict, natural disasters, disease outbreaks, and climate-related shocks. Through a nationwide network of branches, staff, and trained volunteers, the organization provides essential services in health care, first aid, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), disaster preparedness and response, nutrition, and community resilience.

With deep roots in local communities, SRCS plays a critical role in reaching hard-to-access and underserved populations. The organization works closely with communities, local authorities, and humanitarian partners to prevent and alleviate human suffering while strengthening local capacity to respond to emergencies and build resilience for the future.
