Introduction
The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a qualified Logistics Assistant (Fuel Management) to support fuel and fleet-related logistics operations at the Jijiga Area Office. This role plays a critical part in ensuring efficient, compliant, and safe fuel management processes that enable the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance.

Organizational Context
The United Nations World Food Programme works globally to combat hunger and support vulnerable populations. WFP’s mission is to achieve Zero Hunger by ensuring that no one goes to bed hungry, with particular focus on women and children.
Due to increased operational scope and workload, the Logistics Unit at the WFP Jijiga Area Office requires additional capacity to ensure full compliance with supply chain assurance standards and organizational alignment.
Job Purpose
The Logistics Assistant (Fuel Management) supports standard logistics and supply chain processes related to fuel management to ensure the effective and compliant delivery of goods and services. The role contributes to supply chain assurance by supporting fuel operations in line with WFP standards, regulations, and approved procedures.
Key Accountabilities
Under the direct supervision of the Logistics Officer and the overall supervision of the Head of Logistics at Jijiga Area Office, the Logistics Assistant (Fuel Management) will:
- Contribute effectively to fuel management at the Jijiga logistics hub in line with WFP regulations and fuel management SOPs.
- Conduct due diligence checks on bulk fuel stored in tanks and fuel trucks, including stock measurement through tank dipping and meter readings.
- Report fuel stock levels to the Logistics Officer and ensure all data for new tanks and pumps is registered in the Fleet Management System by the Country Office.
- Compile daily, weekly, and monthly fuel balance sheets in the Fleet Management System and Fuel Vouchers System.
- Check the functionality of strainers, pumps, and meters, and ensure safety procedures are strictly followed during fuel dispensing operations.
- Ensure fuel is issued only to authorized WFP assets in accordance with WFP regulations.
- Properly document fuel transactions, maintain accurate records, and upload all required documentation to SharePoint.
- Respond to technical queries and requests for support by applying initiative and standard procedures to deliver timely and accurate solutions with a strong client service focus.
- Collect, compile, analyze, and report fuel-related data while ensuring data accuracy in corporate systems to support informed decision-making.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
Education
- Completion of secondary school education.
- Post-secondary certificate in a relevant functional area.
- A university degree in business administration, economics, or a related field is an added advantage.
Experience
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience in logistics and supply chain operations, including fuel and fleet management and general administrative work.
- Experience working in emergency contexts is an advantage.
- Prior experience in the Somali Region is considered an added value.
Desirable Experience and Skills
- Experience in fleet management, transport planning, fuel management, and data analysis.
- Experience measuring service providers’ performance against established KPIs.
- Experience providing technical business support using corporate systems.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively within a team.
- Strong communication skills and advanced knowledge of logistics operations.
- Extensive proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and related software.
Language
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Fluency in the duty station’s local language, if different.
