About the Fellowship
This Fellowship is designed to support high-potential public health leaders in Africa to develop advanced skills in strategy, management, and leadership. The programme prepares Fellows to lead, manage, and transform public health programmes across the continent.
Fellows will contribute directly to the implementation of Africa’s Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda and the New Public Health Order for Africa. The programme also aims to shape the next generation of public health leaders who will drive sustainable and system-wide impact.
Since its launch, the Fellowship has graduated 84 Fellows from more than 34 African countries. Alumni have gone on to lead transformative initiatives, author books, establish cross-border partnerships, and, in one case, serve as a Minister of Government.
Who Should Apply
The Fellowship is open to senior public health professionals from African Union Member States with experience in, but not limited to, the following areas:
- One Health
- Human medicine
- Sexual and reproductive health
- Public mental health
- Animal health
- Finance
- Health policy
- Epidemiology
- Other related public health fields
What the Fellowship Includes
- Full access to digital and residential learning resources
- Travel, insurance, and daily allowances during residential placements
- Software support for online learning
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Citizenship of an African Union Member State
- A postgraduate degree in a public health-related field
- At least 10 years of professional experience after completion of a Master’s degree
- Full-time employment in a public or private health institution
- Demonstrated leadership capacity or strong leadership potential
Fellowship Selection Process
An independent selection committee conducts the selection process. The committee comprises experts from the African Union Commission, Africa CDC, and global partners. The process follows equal opportunity principles and promotes the inclusion of women and underrepresented groups.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online. Email applications will not be accepted.
Each application must include:
- An employer support letter confirming the applicant’s full participation in the programme
- Two recommendation letters
- A personal statement (maximum 400 words) outlining the applicant’s commitment to public health and professional vision
- A leadership challenge project proposal (maximum 400 words)
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
