Background

Amtel is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Database Engineer to lead the design, administration, optimization, and security of mission-critical fintech databases. This role requires deep expertise in SQL Server Enterprise, data engineering, and performance optimization within high-availability, high-transaction financial environments.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring data reliability, security, and regulatory compliance while supporting the company’s operational and business growth.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior Database Engineer will be responsible for the following:

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize SQL Server Enterprise 2022 databases
  • Design, implement, and manage High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions
  • Develop and manage backup, restore, and database maintenance strategies
  • Ensure database security through encryption, access control, auditing, and compliance controls
  • Design and implement ETL and ELT pipelines using SSIS and T-SQL
  • Support data ingestion from APIs, flat files, and staging systems
  • Design and maintain fintech data models for transactions, ledgers, and accounts
  • Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, and partitioning
  • Monitor systems and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and operational issues
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and analytics using business intelligence tools
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and data privacy standards, including AML, KYC, and GDPR
  • Prepare technical documentation and support knowledge transfer and capacity building
  • Work closely with engineering and business teams to align data solutions with operational and business needs

Skills and Qualifications

Skills

  • Expert knowledge of SQL Server Enterprise 2022 architecture and internal components
  • Strong experience with Always On Availability Groups and Failover Clustering
  • Advanced expertise in database security, including TDE, row-level security, and auditing
  • Strong experience with SSIS and custom ETL development using T-SQL
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, including OLTP, OLAP, and star and snowflake schemas
  • Advanced SQL skills for data analysis, aggregation, and transformation
  • Experience using Power BI, SSRS, or similar business intelligence tools
  • Strong understanding of fintech data structures, including transactions, wallets, and ledgers
  • Hands-on experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools such as Execution Plans, DMVs, and Extended Events
  • Familiarity with data archiving and data retention strategies
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex database and performance-related issues

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in SQL Server administration or data engineering
  • Demonstrated experience working with fintech, banking, or financial systems
  • Experience managing large-scale, real-time transaction databases
  • Proven experience supporting high-availability and high-performance systems
  • Experience in documentation, knowledge transfer, and capacity building
  • Experience aligning data solutions with business objectives and regulatory requirements
  • Experience integrating AI solutions or advanced analytics is an added advantage

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Relevant professional certifications are an added advantage, including:
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
    • Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate (Power BI)
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
